Overnight In A Houseboat On The Chapora River

We spent this Saturday night on a houseboat called Santa Lucia in the middle of the absolutely peaceful Chapora river.

The houseboat has three rooms with attached bathrooms and I was quote surprised by their size. My family of four fit quite comfortable in one of them. The other two were occupied by a couple of tourist couples from the UK.

We weighed anchor at 5.30 pm on Saturday and witnessed a spectacular sunset at Morjim, where the Chapora river meets the Arabian Sea.

We passed by sleepy islands as we made our way back to the spot where we would drop anchor in the middle of the river and spend the night.

We slept like babies with the sound of water flowing by outside our window and missed the sunrise. Anyways, waking up to a cup of hot tea in the middle of a utterly peaceful river is one of the best experiences I have ever had. It was so quiet that we could actually hear birds chirping in the distant coconut trees.

After breakfast, we weighed anchor again and sailed towards Colvale. We passed by local fishermen going about casting their nets as the tide was beginning to come in.

We also passed by a few anglers.

The reason to go to Colvale was to witness the locals draw sand from the river bed.

This is the other house boat that operates on the Chapora river. Aptly called “Laid Back Waters”.

It was truly an awesome experience. Highly recommended if you want to switch off and do absolutely nothing useful for some time. 😉
