Building A Royal Enfield Thunderbird 500

With the aim of finding the rider in me I bought a Royal Enfield Thunderbird 350 in August last year. See “The Search Begins“. This is how the bike looked back then.

This is what it looks like today.

Save the chassis and the engine, I think I’ve replaced just about every part of the bike. I still have to replace the tank with a larger 25 liter one and I ordered a new seat the other day.

I have now decided to buy an new engine and chasis (or take them from a second hand bike) and build a new Thunderbird with the parts of the original bike. And I’m seriously thinking of buying a 500cc engine (or taking one from any old 500cc Royal Enfield Twinspark), putting it on this bike and moving the existing 350cc engine on to the new bike I’m going to build. If I do that I’ll be effectively recreating my original 350cc and building a new 500cc bike from all new parts that I have been buying all along.

Yup, my wife is right. I’ve lost  it. 😉
